VW BlueSport Back On Again?

On again, off again. Now on again? There have been varying reports as to the future of Volkswagen's mid-engined roadster concept, the diesel-powered BlueSport.

Car magazine AutoWeek got a chance to drive the vehicle, the concept being the only BlueSport in existence, and in it said that the BlueSport is "ready to make the leap from concept to production". Wasn't it not just a few weeks ago that we got word of cancellation?  Has something changed?

 The reason for cancellation before had primarily been due to Porsche's decision not to base a new small roadster on the platform. The business case was built on three models; the VW BlueSport, Audi R4 Roadster and a new small Porsche.  Of the three, I was particularly looking forward to the Audi R4. It would've (might be) a great little brother to the R8.

I wonder if it has something to do with the Porsche takeover of VW not working out quite like they expected. I speculated when I heard about the cancellation that it had something you do with Porsche not wanting the car to steal thunder from the Boxster. At such a good price (and especially with an upper-scale Audi variant) I could see it taking some sales. For enthusiasts, this is good news. Let's hope that AutoWeek is right!
