Volvo C70 Is Out

For the month of August, Volvo has seen it's sales do very well - as indeed the Ford Motor Company as a whole. While Volvo may be getting sold to another buyer (which is a misstep in my opinion), new releases are still on track and moving forward.

One of those releases includes the refreshed C70! The C70 is a retractable hardtop convertible model similar to Volvo's smallest sedan, the S40. In June, some pictures of an undisguised C70 from a camera phone were leaked onto the internet. From there, we were able to see the car moving toward Volvo's recent design direction that debuted with the S60 Concept and followed with the XC60 crossover.

I'm a fan of Volvo's new styling language (I saw the XC60 in person yesterday) and I think it wears well on the C70. The look is confident, more grown up and self assured. The grille has been reworked, with the new (and enlarged) Volvo emblem and crossbar, as well as a new chrome border. I must say, these changes do a lot for the C70!

In the back, there is less updating, with the main change being getting updated LED taillights that Volvo says are "of the same type found on the XC60." Inside, there are minor changes as well, with a redesigned instrument panel. There also is a new color being debuted, shown in the pictures and called Flamenco Red Pearl.

It appears that the powertrain options and horsepower are still the same. Mostly this is a visual update to bring the C70 in line with the fresh new Volvo look. In that respect I think it succeeds very well, and I look forward to seeing the refresh for the S40 sedan.
