In order to aid in recruiting efforts (by getting your attention and showing off the capabilities of USAF workers) the U.S Air Force commisioned Galpin Auto Sports to produce two vehicles, the U.S Air Force Mustang X-1 and the U.S Air Force Dodge Challenger Vapor. As their names imply, the Mustang X-1 was designed in the style of a fighter jet while the Challenger Vapor is more befitting of the stealth role.
The Challenger Vapor has carbon fibre disc wheels and and scissor doors. Inside, there is an infrared thermal imaging camera combined with a heads-up display spanning the windshield, and a command center-style cockpit with three LCD screens. Also fitting in the with stealth mantra is a special dual-muffler silencer system.
The Mustang X1 has a jet cockpit with a one ejector seat placed in the middle. As you can tell, the car is widened all around, to accommodate the largest tires available. The car's 500 hp nitrous V-8 is shifted by an actual control stick from a jet airplane!
Out of the two, I'm digging the Challenger Vapor. Check out those grilled headlights! I think that is a really neat design element that was displayed on Dodge's Charger. I'll let you decide which of the two is your favorite though.
I think it's a good idea on the part of the U.S Air Force, and a nice show of support to the American companies. So when the Air Force needs new recruits, what does it do? Why, call in the pony cars of course! My only question is; where is the Camaro?
Hopefully an Air Force creation based on that car is coming. Otherwise there might be a lot of upset Camaro followers out there. "What, no Camaro? No way I'm joining". I kid, I kid. Thanks for all that members of all branches of the Armed Forces do for this country!
