TuningWerk Offers Supercar-like Performance From....A BMW 7-Series?

217 mph, in a BMW 7-Series? 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds? Forget about the M5, this is the M7 BMW never has produced. These numbers have been made possible by the aftermarket, in what truly amounts to a four-door super car. The work has been done by German company TuningWerk.

There are two packages available, impressive and insane.

The first is what the company calls "small scale power augmentation." That package brings power up to 530 horsepower and torque to 545 pound feet, on its way to a top speed of 192 mph. Acceleration is down by .7 from the fastest model, to 4.2 seconds. For stopping power, an upgraded HighPerformance steel braking system is fitted.

The full monte takes power up to 720 horsepower 803 pounds of twist. The top speed is an aforementioned 217 mph. Weight on this model has been reduced by 246 pounds. That has been accomplished thanks to CarbonHybrid (we assume some kind of carbon fiber) front and rear body sills, as well as a redesigned exhaust system.

The brake system gets a further upgrade over the HighPerformance steel brakes in the 530 model, switching to expensive carbon ceramic brakes. They are at the cutting edge of braking technology and help to reduce weight as well.

In case you thought this was an ordinary tuning package, TuningWerk even swaps out the transmissions. The car's standard eight-speed isn't enough to handle all that power. Selecting the 530 model gets you a beefed up five-speed tranny, the 720 a five-speed. If you consider this four-door super car, be prepared to dole out super car prices to get your hands on one. Going for the 530 power option will set you back $233,600 while the 730 dents your wallet to the tune of $272,600. Ouch.
