Get wise and check out a free new iPhone app that actually tells you what a remap will get you. Whatever your motor, hunt it down on the Quantum Tuning app and the figures you’ll see are real world numbers that the blokes at the firm have achieved before.

It’s also good for checking out power and torque figures for cool cars. A couple of taps and you’ve found out that early Ferrari F430s had 483 horses when they left the factory. Not too shabby. A lot less shabby than this lot, anyway.

Browsing around the app you’ll find that cars with turbos get much bigger gains than those without, and diesels usually do better than petrols. You’ll barely notice any difference with a 4hp gain in a 1.2 16-valve Corsa, but 95 extra torques in a derve Fabia vRS is big news. But either way, it makes parting with your hard-earned cash that bit easier.
