For Some Reason, Bentley Thought 'Bentayga' Was A Good Name For Its SUV
On the face of it, yesterday was a pretty damn good day in the world of car news. Not long after the new 600bhp+ Ford GT made itself known to the world, the 2016 NSX was at last revealed. Oh, and the new Alfa 4C Spider was rather hot too.
But it wasn’t all good news from the Detroit motor show. Bentley made the announcement that it had picked a name for its upcoming SUV, and it really isn’t great: Bentayga.
The new SUV (which we spotted undergoing testing last year; see above) is named after the Roque Bentayga, a rock formation in Gran Canaria. Bentley Motors chairman and CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer said that the name “reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world – combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments.”
We’re not entirely sure how the name reflects this, but what we do know is that Bentley Bentayga looks a bit like someone tried to type the word ‘Bentley’ twice, but accidentally knocked something onto their keyboard before they finished. Currently, we’re struggling to decide which has the silliest name, this, or the recently christened Jaguar F-Pace.
The Bentayga will be revealed later this year, before going on sale in 2016. What do you think of its curious title?
