Say Hello To The Lighter, Roomier New Audi Q5
While the hot RS3 Saloon may be the Audi product that’s stealing our attention at the Paris Motor Show, the Q5 SUV deserves an honorable mention. Thanks in part to the car adopting VW Group’s new MLB architecture (think MQB but for longitudinally-mounted engines) it’s lost a lot of weight, and it has a whole load more room on the inside.
Audi says it’s up to 90kg lighter than the old one despite growing in pretty much every dimension, resulting in more capacious cabin with more head and legroom. The boot’s 10 litres larger too - useful for your next Candyup run.
On the outside, it’s Audi business as usual, with the older car’s softer, plump shape made all sharp and pointy. Nothing ground-breaking, but it’s handsome enough.
The range kicks off with a 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel, and is topped by a 282bhp 3.0-litre V6 TDI oil-burner. There’s also a 249bhp 2.0-litre petrol, and there’ll be SQ5 and RSQ5 versions coming along eventually.
Prices haven’t yet been revealed, but expect a starting figure of around £32,000. It’ll be built in Audi’s new Mexico factory, and will go on sale next year.

Well, it AUDI be good.
I first read:
„The boost is 10 litres larger too“ xD
If only…
Fake exhaust tips, really? Come on Audi, you’re better than that! Why does every manyfacturer start building cars with these fake chrome exhaust tips nowadays? Especially on premium cars, seriously why on earth?
I dont get this, either. Mercedes is going the same way, arguing that real “integrated” exhausts would soil and touch the bumper. But what about hiding them in the first place? Less is more.
I don’t see any fake exhaust tips… that’s just some chrome going along the whole bumper and there are no openings, all VW group cars are known for the exhaust tips facing the ground with or without chrome accents.
I hate fake exhaust pipes as much as you but it’s not the case here.
Hello
Hello Q5!
Merc GLC updated, new Q5. Meanwhile the X3….
I thought the glc competes with the q5
Am I the only one who thinks that center console screen looks like it was tacked on last time? I don’t understand the design language of having it just stick out.
They are doing it the Mercedes way. Just take a tablet and stick it on the dash and done!
I think there are two reasons for that:
The screens are now that big that you cannot easily integrate them in the dashboard like f.e. that was the case with the Audi A6 C6.
Another reason might be the US-law, that the screen should always and immediately be available for the parking camera. The A6 C7 has a folding screen, but i believe that’s not allowed anymore.
Now your whole family can watch you tailgate
Looks way too similar to the old model
Like every Audi. It looks better though.
So? the older model’s design was modern, with this one is already better, and the car is actually whole new, I see no problem here.
It looks exactly the same
