The Refreshed Honda Civic Looks Awesome Even As A Non-Type R

There’s a lot to like about the latest Honda Civic. In base FL2 flavour, it’s spacious, comfy on a long drive, the engines are great and build quality might be the best yet on any Civic. However, discounting the FL5 Type R for a second, it’s not what you’d call exciting to look at. It seems that’s about to change.

As part of a media briefing giving an outlook on the year ahead, American Honda took the opportunity to show off a facelifted version of the Civic that’s set to arrive in 2024.

Shown in Sport Touring form (a trim we don’t get in the UK), it’s been given a meaner-looking front bumper and racier side skirts. US and UK versions of the car have a different rear end but, on this one, there’s even a semblance of a ducktail spoiler.

A hybrid engine will debut in the US market for this generation of Honda Civic. That’s something we’re very used to in the UK, with an electrified offering our sole choice on these shores for anything non-Type R.

American Honda hasn’t given technical details on the powertrain but, if it’s to use the engine as sold in Europe, expect a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder delivering drive to an electric motor on the front axle. Power comes in at 181bhp and 258lb ft of torque, allowing for a 7.8-second 0-62mph sprint.

It’s expected the hybrid Civic will make up about 40 per cent of sales for the model in the US when it launches, so expect to see plenty of them kicking around if you’re in the ‘States.

Whether or not an updated version of the European and UK-spec Honda Civic is imminent is not yet clear, but we’d expect one to follow not too long after the US versions head to market.
