Porsche Dragged Into Dieselgate As New Cayenne Allegations Surface

A German newspaper has alleged that the diesel Cayenne puts out more harmful nitric oxide than it's legally allowed to, but while Porsche says they've got it all wrong, an official investigation has been ordered

It doesn’t look like the dieselgate mess is going to be cleared up any time soon, as Porsche has now been dragged into the argument.

With Audi recently having been collared over allegations of steering angle-based emissions defeat devices, Germany’s Ministry of Transport has now ordered an investigation into the Cayenne V6 diesel.

Major national newspaper Der Spiegel has reported that its own test suggests the model’s nitric oxide emissions break the legal limit, but Porsche says its own tests disagree, calling the newspaper’s findings ‘implausible’. It’s all a bit he-said-she-said, hence the official investigation.

In a statement the Stuttgart-based firm said:

“Der Spiegel has conducted joint tests with TUV Nord on a Porsche Cayenne V6 TDI (Euro 6) and has reported on its findings in its latest edition. Porsche has obtained extracts of these results and considers them to be implausible.

“As a result of the Der Spiegel test, Porsche has conducted tests on a comparable Cayenne V6 TDI (Euro 6). The tests found that the vehicle was compliant with the legally stipulated nitric oxide limit values. Furthermore, Porsche has offered to conduct joint tests, but Der Spiegel has not accepted this offer.

“Porsche cooperates fully with the authorities. We also liaise with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) on all current issues.

“As the regulatory emissions authority responsible for the homologation of our vehicles, the KBA confirmed to us that the EU6-certified Cayenne V6 TDI vehicle model referenced by Der Spiegel is compliant with regulations. We provided the KBA with the information regarding the functions of the Cayenne V6 TDI that relate to emissions certification and will continue to take this approach.”

You see VW, now you’ve locked other innocent companies in the gate.

Why are we surprised? Porsche is a daughter-company of the VAG. They use the same engines in VWs, Porsches, Audis, Maseratis, Skodas and so on. These will all surface, and after that, every other car brand. Almost everybody else doesnt pass emission regulations as well.

I suspect there will be a few companies that did not cheat. But VW is just too greedy so they cheat on everything they can

Everyone is saying “Oh VAG is cheating blah blah blah VAG is greedy” when in reality most companies were/are cheating.

Interesting to note that these new allegations appear to have had no significant effect on Volkswagen AG’s share price. (As a little side note, neither has the developing situation in Qatar despite the QIA’s 17% share in the company.) I don’t quite know what it means for Volkswagen but it’s interesting.

All companies build cars to pass the test even though we all know that if you get heavy with your right foot it’s going to deliver more emissions. It’s the test that is flawed.

It should be remembered that VAG actually set out to cheat the test, it was a premeditated action on their part because of corporate greed and there desire to be the biggest in the world at all costs.

I certainly wouldn’t buy a car from Hitlers car company in future.

What does someone have to do to get a diesel anymore?? I largely prefer a diesel and Land Rover is the only one selling luxury SUV’s in diesel? Come on guys, please get your fudge together and put out a turbo diesel for me! One that has towing of 6000+ lbs and loves to go off road! I’m test driving a Range Rover Sport next week, I just hope that it won’t get pulled into this diesel gate mess!!
