Peter Dempsey's Heroic Indycar Win Makes Him A Slipstreaming God
Watch what happens when the slipstream effect comes in to play at the perfect moment
Oval racing is boring. Us Europeans just don't understand it - the cars go round and round and round until there's a crash to punctuate the boredom. Friday's Firestone Freedom 100 Indycar race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway didn't read that script, however, as Irishman Peter Dempsey charged from a distant 4th to win in the space of half a lap.
As the cars entered the final straight, three wide, Dempsey caught an incredible slipstream and darted to the outside of rivals Chaves, Karam and Munoz. The extra speed crept Dempsey into first place, winning by an incredible .0026 - equivalent to a couple of inches over his opponent. Further proof that a couple of extra inches makes all the difference.
