Paris 2010: Lotus Elise Concept
It's clear Lotus has a thing for names beginning in "E" - new models include Elite, Esprit, Elan, Eterne and existing models include Elise, Exige, Europa and Evora.

A bit confusing, but in the past decade Lotus has been primarily known for one car - the Elise. It struck a chord with enthusiasts for being lightweight, mid-engined and offering g0-kart-like handling.
It has become a classic, and that is a formula you don't want to mess with too much.
As part of its higher ambitions, Lotus has given that formula a bigger update than anyone quite imagined with the new Elise Concept.
The look is aggressive, fresh and modern. There are thin headlights and a swept back cabin that is quite a departure from the current vehicle.
It is more aerodynamic and that should ensure increased fuel economy and better performance. Fitting with Lotus' aiming for exotic territory, the look appears more exotic and high-end.
While weight has been increased, the Elise still maintains its core attributes inside and out. It just seems intent on expanding its appeal somewhat, such as adding the availability of a hard top.
The new car has a curb weight of 2,409 pounds and is powered by a turbocharged Toyota 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 320 horsepower. That propels the Elise to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds for a price of $55,000.
If you're looking for something easier on the pocketbook, Lotus says a non-turbocharged four-cylinder model will be available as well.
Inside the surroundings are bit less spartan than before, but that isn't saying much. The look is still very much driver-focused and comes off with an appearance similar to a Formula One car.
It appears we have a while to go before seeing this one out on the road though, as it is slated to arrive in 2015 along with the Eterne.
