Nico Rosberg Has Been Punished By Mercedes For Ending Lewis Hamilton's Race At Spa

Mercedes team bosses Toto Wolff and Paddy Lowe sat down with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton earlier today to discuss the events of last weekendâs Belgian Grand Prix.
Rosberg and Hamilton collided on the second lap of the race at Spa-Francorchamps. The contact punctured the 2008 world championâs tyre, with the floor damage causing his retirement later on, costing the team a one-two finish.

In a statement released today, Mercedes confirmed that Rosberg has âacknowledged his responsibilityâ and apologised to Hamilton for the clash.
It was also revealed that âsuitable disciplinary measuresâ have been taken and that the teamâs policy of allowing its drivers to race freely will remain. However, further contact will not be tolerated.

Both drivers released their own statements shortly after. Rosberg owned up to his âerror of judgementâ, apologising to Hamilton and F1 fans. He added that he is looking forward to âconcluding the season with hard, fair competition on and off track right up to the final lap of the season in Abu Dhabiâ.
Meanwhile Hamilton said everyone came together to discuss their differences, saying both drivers accepted that they made mistakes. He added: âI feel it would be wrong to point fingers and say which one is worse than the other. Whatâs important is how we rise as a team from these situations. We win and we lose together and, as a team, we will emerge stronger.â
