This Is The Moment An Audi R8 Travelling Over Twice The Speed Limit Caused A Fatal Crash
The footage above shows the horrific moment a speeding Audi R8 Spyder collided with a Ford Fiesta, causing fatal injuries to one of the hatchback’s occupants.
The collision happened at a crossroads, as the Fiesta attempted to pull across the main road. Saqib Hussain, 25, was behind the wheel of the R8, which was travelling at 76mph in a 30mph zone. He has been sentenced to six years in prison for causing the death of the front seat passenger, Noreen Ryan.
When police arrived, the R8 had been abandoned, with witnesses saying the two occupants had jumped into a Mercedes that appeared shortly after the crash, and left the scene. Officers contacted hospitals to report anything suspicious, and received a call later that night to say a patient - later confirmed to be the R8’s passenger - had arrived with facial injuries that he claimed he received in an assault, but doctors weren’t convinced.
Hussain was arrested the following day after handing himself in to his local police station, and was ultimately charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
The incident brings to mind the hard-hitting anti-speeding advert we featured in January (above). The point of this advert is that if you’re travelling above the limit, even if you’re in complete control, other road users may not anticipate your speed. The CCTV footage of the fatal crash (top) shows the Fiesta slowly leaving the junction, and it appears the driver saw the R8 but felt she’d have enough time to cross.
So remember, just because you know what you’re doing, doesn’t mean others do. Stay safe!
