Lexus Teases Small Hatch

Sources were pretty accurate on this one - we've heard reports about a new small Lexus for months, and that it would be making it's debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Now we've gotten pretty close to an official confirmation, with Lexus releasing a revealing teaser of the new hatchback. Let's take a look!

Of course this is just a computer-touched up sketch, and a very stylized one at that. But, it does give show signs that Lexus realizes that it needs to go after a younger demographic, as well as breaking into the European market if it ever hopes to truly succeed.

What we can see is the car will be somewhat aggressive, with an evolving styling language that is most similar to the IS. It seems as if the hatchback shown at Frankfurt will be a concept that heavily previews the production version. From what I can see the car sounds pretty impressive. Problem is, I'm hearing that this car won't be making the trip across the Atlantic to the United States market. We get the HS 250h and the Europeans get this?

Someone is getting the short end of the stick in this deal. FWD and all, it's better than the gussied up Corolla we're getting now. Maybe they will change their minds? Who knows - my interest is this car is definitely piqued. We'll see if Lexus can really play against the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series and Volvo C30 soon enough.
