We've been hearing a lot about the new Lexus GS. That intense focus shows its importance to the Lexus brand, which is experiencing flagging sales.

The media have already done their reviews of the car, and now the general public is going to get to weigh in with its thoughts. The previous generation, even during the height of Lexus sales, never was a big seller and it fared poorly in comparison tests.

The launch is scheduled for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance happening in Monterey, California this weekend. Thanks to some spy photographers, we get a look at the production GS a bit before then though. The GS caught testing without camouflage in China.

It isn't as if we didn't have any idea as to what it would look like; the LF-GH Concept served as a strong preview. The interesting thing to see was how the concept would translate to the production car.

As expected it has been toned down, but a lot of the original themes remain, such as the new Lexus grille. It will be the face of Lexus going forward. This time around there will be performance iterations of the GS that should look considerably more aggressive as well.

A Lexus GS-F is on the docket, and a sport package for standard car is likely. The new GS looks good to our eyes; a huge improvement over the previous GS in every way.

Paired with what we hear is a much more engaging drive experience, it makes the GS look a lot more like a serious contender in this segment. That is coming from someone who is usually not impressed with Lexus' effort. Lexus is expected to release a full gamut of images inside and out, as well as specifications details, this weekend.
