Jaguar's Sat Nav Ghost Tech And Invisible Pillars Are Like A Sci-Fi Dream

Jaguar Land Rover has been at the forefront of awesome sci-fi technology recently. Earlier this year the manufacturer displayed its transparent bonnet, which aids off-roading by giving the driver a view of exactly what is beneath the front wheels, and now it has revealed its ‘360 Virtual Urban Windscreen’, which takes the technology to the next step.

Beefy A-pillars are one of the things we listed as a frustration of modern driving, but JLR’s new tech projects the view behind the pillars to give a completely unobstructed view of a driver’s surroundings. It uses similar technology to the ‘invisible interior’ we featured recently, using screens to display a live feed from exterior cameras, meaning cars, cyclists and other road users never fall into a blind spot.

Furthermore, the new interior features an advanced head-up display. This can find and highlight potential dangers, such as pedestrians in the road. Perhaps the coolest use of the head-up display, however, is the ‘ghost car’. It looks like when you’re racing your best time on Forza, and aids navigation by giving the driver a ‘ghost’ to follow, ensuring you’re in the right lane - something that would be particularly useful when driving in a big, unfamiliar city.
