It Looks Like A Four-Cylinder Diesel Jaguar F-Type Is Coming

Whether you buy a V6 or a V8 Jaguar F-Type, you can be sure your ears will be treated to a jolly nice time. However, it’s looking like a less tuneful version of Jaguar’s pretty coupe and cabriolet combo might be on the way: a diesel.

Oh yes: alongside the long-rumoured new entry-level 2.0-litre four-pot Igenium petrol F-Types, it seems Jaguar is also about to introduce the 2.0-litre diesel version from the engine family to the sports car. Spy shots from Autocar captured an oil-burning F-Type test mule with JLR engineering big cheese Mike Cross behind the wheel, and after running the plates on the DVLA database, the publication found that the car is registered as having a 2.0-litre diesel engine.

This could of course amount to nothing - plenty of cars never make it past the testing stage, after all. But if this did happen, what would you think of such a vehicle? Does the idea of a diesel F-Type disgust you, or is the prospect of a torquey little diesel Jaguar roadster/coupe weirdly appealing? Let us know in the comments.

Having an f-type with a 4-cylinder diesel engine is like having a beautiful girlfriend who belches and scratches the balls like a man … it’s simply not funny at all …

But the point of and f type is to be a car you work up to afford. It’s supposed to be shorty and grunty and feel like you might die in every corner

It’s not my cup of tea but it gives people with less money the opportunity to drive a nice and now more discrete car. And not everyone wants to have a loud screaming engine in their car. And it will support the survival of the F-Types with bigger engines. So I wouldn’t make a drama about it because the customer can choose what F-Type he wants to buy.

Well, the days have changed. Normally you buy a convert to deive open and cruise. A nice burbly V6/V8 os then the tone you need to hear. A 4 banger, okay, entry level market. And then diesels? Well, in certain areas I’d say okay, but not in an F Type… Imdoubt it will be launched, as the mule is mkre so probabky testing some other base (maybe for a smaller, entry level car or for a compact car, to compete with the A class or 1 series).
