It seemed a little difficult to believe at first, but it looks as though new paint technology being testing by Nissan could banish the act of washing your car to the history books. Shown being tested on a Note in this video, the paint is said to be 'super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint.' Sounds complicated, but it works in a relatively straightforward way; by creating a protective layer between the paint and the air.

This means that road spray, mud, and pretty much any other material that could leave a dirty mark is repelled by the protective coating. It's the work of a company called UltraTech International, and while Nissan has no plans to roll out the technology on its products, it will continue to test it.

So, if you find keeping your ride clean a real chore, take heart; before too long washing your car could be a thing of the past.
