Here's Terrifying Footage Of Someone Trying To Escape A Wildfire By Pick-Up Truck

This gripping video shows two men desperately trying to escape Tennessee's fierce wildfire earlier in the week

Part of Tennessee was turned into a hellish inferno earlier this week, as wildfires gripped the eastern part of the state in the Rocky Mountains. Giving an insight into just how terrifying it was for those on the ground, Michael Luciano from Gatlinburg posted this footage of him and a friend attempting to escape through the wildfires to safety. Needless to say, it’s proper heart in mouth stuff.

According to the Washington Post, the fires claimed the lives of seven, a number likely to rise as there are still people missing. Around 700 homes have been destroyed by the blaze, which is thought to have been started deliberately.

Growing up me and my family would always visit Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, which is this exact area. It’s sad to see such a great place, full of culture, memories, and hard working people like this go up in flames before our eyes. Sorry if that wasn’t so car related, this post just got to me as gatlinburg/pigeon forge is a city so dear to me😭

I want to see the truck afterwards, I feel like that truck should be put on display. “Forged in the depths of hell, so you can make it out of hell itself. Dodge.”

They would have been much safer in the Skoda Yeti, with its ability to keep a ice cream intact in a 400 degree inferno (I’m so sorry)

In Australia people die trying to escape bushfires. The oxygen is displaced and the engine stops. Always leave early.

Gatlinburg is just over the mountain from me (only around a 1.5-2 hour drive), and I’ve been there too many times to count. It’s a quaint little town with lots of neat shops, good places to eat, and some of the friendliest folks you’d ever meet. It’s the kind of town you can visit with your entire family, the kids could go off on their own, and you’d have no worries about them getting lost or anything bad happening to them. It breaks my heart that nearly the entire town has been reduced to ashes…

The smoke from all the wildfires (they’ve been popping up all over the area for the last few weeks) have blanketed the entire western North Carolina area with smoke for about the past month… smoke so thick, it looks like a dense fog cloud rolling through. It was so bad last week, it would sting your eyes to go outside. Luckily, we FINALLY got some rain in the last few days. While it hasn’t extinguished all of the fires, it has helped to bring them under control a bit more. Hopefully, we’ll get more rain, get these fires put out, and we can start the long process of restoring the area to its former beauty.

Also, as a few people have pointed out, this is NOT the Rockies. These fires are in the Appalachian Mountain range. Or, more specifically, the Blue Ridge Mountains (also known as The Great Smokies, which the name is a bit more literal, now). The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through the area (and, no.. Top Gear did NOT do the Parkway, or the connecting roads, any justice), and much of the forest around it has been burned away.
