This is equally as horrifyingly as the whole guardrail debacle here in the states (which I believe is unresolved) where the manufacturers changed the design of the endings of the guardrail to a cheaper to manufacture design, and suddenly, cars and their passengers were effectively giant shih-kebabs, since the cheaper design didn’t deflect loads off to the side like the old design.

Would it make sense to make a “foldable” guard? So it doesn’t stick out when loading/unloading or driving in cities, but take a more impact-friendly shape on the road?
