Hamann's 670 horsepower Tycoon Evo M
Just how fast could you make an SUV or crossover or whatever these things are called, go? Sure, look, you give enough impetus to a school bus to put it in orbit around Jupiter, but the real question is why?
Just how fast could you make an SUV or crossover or whatever these things are called, go? Sure, look, you give enough impetus to a school bus to put it in orbit around Jupiter, but the real question is why? Why put this much time and effort into taking a BMW SUV, or crossover, whatever, and make it this fast?
Noted German BMW tuner Hamann (and just how many German tuner firms are there? It seems like there's a million and six.) has given the full treatment to BMW's M6, and by the time they were done, they ended up calling it the Tycoon Evo M, and gave it enough power to nearly reach orbital velocity.
Under the hood of the Tycoon Evo M Hamann has inserted the X6 M's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Hamann also added a high-flow exhaust system and reprogrammed the ECU so the mill puts out 670 horsepower and an ocean going tug-like 576 pound-feet of torque. The German tuning firm asserts that the additional 115 horsepower is good for a 4.2 second dash to 62 mph and will allow the Tycoon Evo M to top out at 186 mph.
Of course Hamann had to add a revised wide body kit to the Tycoon Evo M. The fenders have been broadened by 60mm, and LED running lights are now profligately distributed on the front end. Hamann also added lightweight 23-inch forged wheels and aluminum and lots and lots of carbon fiber interior accessories.
And yes, this is a nice bit of kit. And yes, it looks like Hamann have got their engineering sums right. And yes, that's good performance numbers for any sort of ride. Especially for an SUV or crossover or whatever. But why?
Why put all this time and effort into making an SUV or crossover or whatever it is better? Why not stuff that plant into a BMW 1 Series for a start? That would have been interesting.
