The Brabus Mercedes E V12 Coupe

What, you were expecting subtlety form a firm like Brabus (or I guess that's BRABUS, all caps (geez, even their name is as subtle as "annexing" the Sudetenland)). What we have here is the BRABUS take on the Mercedes E Class coupe.

What, you were expecting subtlety form a firm like Brabus (or I guess that's BRABUS, all caps (geez, even their name is as subtle as "annexing" the Sudetenland)). What we have here is the BRABUS take on the Mercedes E Class coupe. And their take includes things like V12 engines, enough horsepower for an ocean-going tug, and all the subtlety of a flying mallet.

The BRABUS massaged Merc puts out a whopping 800 horsepower and the torque initially rates at 1,420 Nm. I say initially because BRABUS has to dial it down to "only" 1,100 Nm. Why? Dunno, but probably to prevent splattering the tranny or the diff all over the road would be my guess.

The plant itself has its own name: The SV12 R Biturbo 800. BRABUS took the stock Mercedes 5.5 liter V12 and gave it the tried and true hot rod treatment. In other words, they bored and stroked it to 6.3 liters, gave it all-new internals, put in a more radical cam and gets the good air in via an all-new intake system hooked up to a fully functional RAM-air hood.

BRABUS also screwed down twin turbochargers onto das mill, and downstream of those there's a bespoke stainless exhaust system and sport catalysts. Oh, and they also made sure it was even Euro IV emissions-compliant. Cheeky, huh?

So how fast is fast in a car like this? Simple answer: 230 mph (370 km/h). Of course, like the torque limitations, BRABUS sees fit to limiting the top end to "only" 217 mph (349 km/h). Which, if you think about it, is still plenty fast, thank you very much.

Getting all this whoa'd up is done via fixed caliper brakes at all four corners. 12-piston up front and 6-piston hanging out back. And yes, they're huge: 380 mm and 360 mm in diameter, front and rear. Yeah, that'll most likely do. Oh, and there's also lots and lots and lots of carbon fiber and vents and what not, but BRABUS says they're all functional. Of course.

It tips the scales at a porky 1,850 kilograms (4,078 lbs), but with 800 horsepower motivating it from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and topping it out at the aforementioned 230 mph (370 km/h), those pounds just seem to melt away.

Cost? €470,000.
