GM's Reputation Is In Tatters After It's Forced To Recall Yet Another Recall
Are you ready for even more GM recall woe? This one’s pretty special. After recalling millions of vehicles for faulty ignition switches that were linked to 13 deaths (and realising that one model they’d recalled didn’t even need a recall), GM has discovered that the ignition kit it was preparing to swap into affected cars had a fault of its own. So it has recalled them.
The parts were built in Mexico before being shipped to dealers, but GM techs identified more than 500 kits that had faulty tabs. The tabs would not have been a safety concern, but they may have affected the anti-theft systems.
Left Lane News reports that ignition kit supplier Delphi has implemented a visual inspection process on the production line to try and catch problems before parts are sent to dealers.
This is the latest in a long line of PR disasters for GM; it has recalled millions of vehicles in 2014 alone, and this incredible infographic outlines just what a mess the company is in.
