This Could Be Britain's Luckiest Citroen Saxo Driver

'Lucky' isn't something we normally call most Saxo drivers, but after getting a corner all kinds of wrong, this one ends up wildly launching the car onto two wheels before pure luck saves them from turning upside down

The driver of this old Citroen Saxo must have some fresh underwear on order after coming horribly close to rolling their car over on a country road on the Isle of Wight.

After overtaking the camera car on a straight, the blue Saxo pulls away and attempts to negotiate a right-hander that we suspect was tighter than the driver expected. Lack of good judgment/basic driving skills, etc.

Having got their steering all wrong and probably after lifting off the throttle, the driver loses the back end and swerves into the wrong lane, and when the back end snaps back around, the car clips the dusty verge and launches high up onto two wheels as if it’s a stunt performance.

We suspect luck rather than skill is what stops the teetering car from rolling all the way over onto its roof, and the supermini slams back onto its wheels and gently rolls into a hedge, where it probably stayed until the driver had cleaned up their trouser mess. Better only that than cleaning up bits of the car as well, maybe.

I learned to drive in exactly the same car - it was my sisters old 1.1i Saxo. Pencil thin tires, French suspension - as in comfort orientated - and three up, I nearly rolled it on the way home from college doing exactly the same thing…as in believing it was a VTR, and an over inflated belief in my own ability. Had that on two wheels and terrified everyone onboard. Absolutely loved that car - despite only having 60ish horsepower, taught me a lot about lift off oversteer!

My brother had a Citroen Saxo VTS+ in the late 1990s. He did, in fact, flip it over on the motorway. Saxos are notorious for flipping over because they weigh nothing and have sway bars akin to a 1970s British factory worker: on strike or missing entirely.
