Car Cameo: Owl City & Carly Rae Have A Good Time In Their Convertibles
Dat Ass! Oh, I do apologise. Got distracted there.
Dat Ass! Oh, I do apologise. Got distracted there. Anyway, believe it or not summer is still here. Some parts of the UK probably aren't feelin' the summer vibe, but it's a different story on the other side of the pond, which is why for Owl City's latest video with Carly Rae Jepsen they had a jolly good time in convertibles from the past and the present.
For Carly and her girlfriends, a current droptop from a bygone era. It's the FIAT 500C, one similar to Jenifer Lopez's in the video for 'Papi'. Launched two years after the 500, it features the same engines as the standard car including the 133hp 1.4-litre turbocharged unit found in the Abarth - which goes from 0-62mph in just under 8 seconds and up to a top speed of 117mph - and the tiny Twinair two cylinder engine which we played 'Hide and Seek' with way back in February.
Adam Young on the other hand got behind the wheel of something a bit more special from the past. The Mercury Cougar. This particular car is the first generation convertible built between 1969 and 1970 only. Mercury was owned by Ford and the Cougar was for the kind of chap that liked the Ford Mustang but wanted it to be a little bit more European. As such it's a Mustang underneath but the wheelbase is 3 inches longer and you could get the car with wood trim on the dash and the steering wheel just like the one featured. Two V8s were available with this generation of Cougar; a 5.8-litre Windsor that produced 250hp with a two-barrel carburetor or 290hp with a four barrel one, and a 7 litre FE with 345hp.
The Cougar coupe was briefly sold here in the UK with a Ford badge between 1998 and 2002. Think of Ollie's Puma, but bigger and with a 2.5-litre V6 producing 168hp plus room in the back for two lads.
'Good Time' is from the Album 'The Midsummer Station' and is out now everywhere other than the UK where we can buy it from 20th of August. Check out the clip below and if you want to comment, you've got our number, so call us maybe?
