Camaro Z28 Coming
The GM's financial condition and resulting bankruptcy this year upended and reshuffled a lot of product plans. It was rumored that the Camaro Z28 was probably cancelled, even though development was complete, and the Convertible variant was either cancelled or pushed back.

That was before the initial success of the Camaro was realized, and when even the possibility of delaying the car's introduction was considered. It's safe to say things have changed.
You can't revive the Camaro without reviving the Z28 too! The Z28 is inextricably linked into the Camaro's history, slotting above the current SS. Camaro5, experts at all things Camaro, got a chance to ask some direct questions about the Camaro to GM officials at the Carlisle Nationals.
The situation is this; the Camaro Convertible is coming in Spring of 2011, with the Z28 set to "follow after." They said there's "no doubt" there will be a Z28. So it is coming, it just could be a long wait. Regardless though, GM is following a predictable pattern; spreading out launches of new variants across the life of the product in order to keep up interest. It makes sense, it just is too bad for those looking to get a new Z28 right now.
Until then, I guess the aftermarket will have to do. When it does finally come though, the new Camaro Z28 promises to be a real treat. Rumor has that it could be powered by a variant of the LSA V8 doing duty in the Cadillac CTS-V. That engine makes 556hp and would be a true top-of-the-line performance Camaro.
