Brace Yourself For A Convertible Version Of The Huge Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept

A year on from the unveiling of the futuristic – and massive – Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept, the company has announced that a convertible version will take centre stage later this month at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The fully electric concept you see above is a 2+2 ultra-luxury coupé in the same vein as the Rolls-Royce Wraith, and the new drop-top alternative has Rolls’ Dawn in its sights. This one arrives as momentum behind the projects builds, with Autocar suggesting that Mercedes could be planning to launch a coachbuilding department to give Maybach customers the same freedom of creative customisation granted to those shopping at Rolls-Royce.

This video posted to Instagram by Gorden Wagener, Mercedes’ head of design, featuring two of his fellow designers, gives a little insight into some of the designs being worked on. While the sketches you can see in the footage look very different to last year’s Maybach 6 concept, the three pen-men agree that the finished product won’t look like that.

It’s expected that the display car will carry the same 738bhp electric drivetrain as the hard-top, which Mercedes says would make the near-six-metre-long leviathan good for over 300 miles of driving range.
