Brabus GLK V12
I think they made it look that way on purpose. Yes, I know, look what they had to start with, but still, they sure took it down a notch, now didn't they?
I think they made it look that way on purpose. Yes, I know, look what they had to start with, but still, they sure took it down a notch, now didn't they? Brabus, one of the first German tuning firms to gain wide notice, OK, notice outside of Germany back in the 1980s for doing rude things with Mercedes, has just taken a whack at MB's GLK sport ute.
You could say that stuffing a V12 into it is the be all and end all, and all you need to know, but hey, in for a penny, in for a pound, so lets wallow, shall we? Brabus says that the GLK V12 is the fastest street legal SUV in the world, and has set a record of 211 mph. That's according to Brabus, but you know, with enough power, you probably could get an un-aerodynamic brick like the GLK to go that fast.
Speaking of power, under the bonnet you'll find a SV12 R Biturbo 750 plant that cranks out a pretty-damn-impressive 750 hp at 5,500 rpm and peak grunt of 1,350 Nm (or 995 lb-ft) at 2,100 rpm; fairly low down, you'll note. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat.
All of that power gets to the rear wheels via a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission and a BRABUS 40 percent locking limited-slip differential. I wonder if they even tried running a manual gearbox? The noise it made when it splattered the internals must have been impressive.
Brabus saw fit to increase the width of the GLK by 5 cm. They also saw fit to add custom-tailored rocker panels with LED lights, a rear apron, a roof spoiler, free-flow metal catalysts, a stainless-steel sport exhaust system and custom-tailored cutouts on the right and left side. No, I'm not sure what those are either.
Brabus also worked over the ECU to "ensure an optimal symbiosis of power yield, running smoothness and especially eco-friendly exhaust emissions." Especially? Didn't know they were comedians too. But hey, Brabus says that the GLK V12 meets the strict requirements of the Euro IV standard, so great for them.
It's also worth noting that the Brabus GLK V12 will make its world debut at the Dubai International Motor Show, and that should really tell you everything you need to know. In short, this ride is aimed at people with way, WAY too much money and a huge need to show off.
It can all be yours for 397,000 Euro.
