The Bentley Flying Spur W12 S Is A 200mph Hyper Waft Mobile

If you’ve wanted a 200mph Bentley up until now, your choice has been restricted to just the Continental GT Coupe. Want a four-door saloon from Benters that’ll crack the double tonne? Tough.

Thankfully though, a new car is here to solve this very much First World Problem: the Flying Spur W12 S.

The 6.0-litre 12-banger in the S gets a modest boost of 10bhp to give 626bhp, while the torque figure is up by 14lb ft to a healthy 600lb ft total. Not huge gains, but enough to comfortably punch the Flying Spur over the 200mph mark for the first time, with an official top speed of 202mph. 0-62mph meanwhile takes 4.5 seconds, a tenth quicker than before.

As well as the extra power and torque, the Spur’s suspension has been revised, although Bentley hasn’t gone into specifics, merely stating that the changes offer “improved body control and handling without sacrificing comfort”. If you want to upgrade the brakes, carbon ceramic discs are an option.

Looking to the exterior, the S gains a “Beluga” gloss front grille and light surround, a new rear diffuser an optional carbonfibre highlights. On the inside, there are many W12 S badges (obviously), a ‘Sport Plus’ steering wheel plus knurled gearshift paddles as standard - those peasants with ‘lesser’ Flying Spurs only get those as an option.

Want one? Expect a decent increase over the boggo W12’s £153,300 starting price, before you add anything from Bentley’s extensive options list. Customer deliveries will kick off at the end of 2016.
