I did not know any of that break in stuff. I bet many other people don’t know either and their cars will wear down quicker.. So unpractical to have a new car then.

This isn’t as important on newer cars. It’s still a good idea to follow the break in procedures but look at it this way. Even a brand new car has been test driven, and those test drives involved flooring it. Manufacturers break in engines 95% of the way there before they’re shipped out, otherwise there’d be a big warning about the break in period on the car before you buy it, since most cars offer long-term warranties now.
Floor it?

I absolutely babied my car for the painful 500 mile break in period. It was very painful, and I was tempted plenty of times to just floor it!
Great video, as always. But now I get concerned since I know that my new BMW M2 will be driven a short distance before I collect it. It will go to the company that “details” the car before I get to have it. Hmm.
I did all the things he said you shouldn’t and 195,000 km later the motor runs just fine. Only way to get her to stop burning oil and blowing it out the turbo was to pull lots of weight at high rpm uphill for a significant distance.
Great video. Now I’m just curious, but would letting the car idle for a while make short trips okay? I know that engine RPMs would not be changing very much at all and it can be a long process (especially in colder areas), but I ask because a lot of my trips on the weekends only allow my current car (2002 MB W208 CLK430) to get up to about 80C versus its operating temp of 87-90C.
