2018 Ford Mustang Ecoboost Owners Can Get In On The Line Lock Burnout Action

Ford has added a Line Lock function to the facelifted Mustang Ecoboost, so you no longer need a V8 GT for easy burnout fun

Up until now, if you’ve wanted to get in on the Mustang Line Lock burnout shenanigans, you’ve only been able to do so with the V8-powered GT. But, this injustice will go on no longer, as for the updated 2018 ‘Stang, Ford has kindly added the feature to the entry-level Ecoboost car.

As on the GT, Line Lock - enabled via the car’s ‘Track Apps’ menu - brakes the front wheels, meaning all you need to do is mash your foot on the throttle for a big smoky burnout lasting anything up to 15 seconds.

A 2.3-litre inline-four isn’t going to sound quite as good as the GT’s 5.0-litre V8 when it’s bouncing off the limiter, but we’re sure that won’t detract from the fun too much. Also, if you option the bigger 12-inch infotainment screen, you get a nifty little animation of a smoking tyre while you’re shredding rubber.

The 2018 Mustang will be arriving at dealers in the USA later this year.

Y’know, you could also like, rev the engine, drop the clutch and hold the brake too, not that hard
