Depends on how and how often its maintained, if badly not more than 80 000-100 000 miles, if properly then a lot more

depends. I was looking at the UK rx8 forum and they had a survey of engine rebuilds. a majority had no rebuild, but the most common distance in miles for a rebuild was 50-60 thousand (12%). it really depends on how the previous owners treated it. if you are buying from a dealer then a compression test is recommended. there are a good few engines out there with 100,000 plus miles with no signs of wear.

All engines need maintenance. I could make my WRX engine last 1,000,000 kilometres if I maintain it correctly… So, an RX-8 engine could probably last longer still.

The key is timing belts, fresh coolant, fresh synthetic engine oil and keeping the other peripherals in good shape (radiator, hoses, etc.)

This doesn’t include for damage like cracked manifolds… You would need to replace the manifold or such if it broke, too, and preventive maintenance can’t prevent them from cracking.

This information is completely false because…

Most things I’ve read say about 60k, but that’s the internet where everything that could possibly go wrong will. So you’re looking at probably 1.5x to 2x that if you’re doing proper maintenance and not trying to love out Initial D fantasy’s.

The real question is, how much oil will it drink in that time and how often will you flood it because you forgot to run it for five minutes when moving it quickly out of the way of someone and then parking it again.
