Link G4+ Atom on B230, separate ignition coils.

Hey guys. I’m thinking about starting a project. Some old Volvo wagon, B230, not yet sure about the head, 8v or 16v, but what ever. I’m thinking about going with the Link G4+ Atom ECU. I seem to get most part of the fuel wiring, but I’m getting nervous over ignition. Thinking about using the ignition coil from an old Volvo 850, and use one per cylinder. Is there any built in amplifier in those? Or will i have to plug 1x ignition amplifier to each and one of the coils? Also, 36-1 trigger wheel, on the backside of the crankshaft pulley, what trigger is good to use?

Cheers, Martin.

And yes, I’m planning on turboing the thing. If that is anyhow relevant.

Seriously? No answer? Not even a speculation? Lost the hope for a legitimate answer when i see pictures of “dog memes” in the tuning section.

Is there a Link forum? You might have more luck. Why not use megasquirt? It’s cheap, infinite options and there is true helpful support on their online forum.

I’m not sure about your coils but if you have the choice usually you want to use smart coils like ls1 or ls2 (best is the ls2 truck coils with the cooling fins on the back) and these can be triggered directly by most aftermarket ecu.

Been looking in the Link forum, not much luck. Will have to dig deeper. LS1 or LS2 coils seem to be hard to get by here in sweden. I’m thinking about VAG but it would be easier with volvo 800-coils, because I can’t put the coil directly on the spark plug, will have to use ignition cables!
