The VW Scirocco Might Be Killed Off After The Current Generation Ends

The VW Scirocco Might Be Killed Off After The Current Generation Ends

The VW Scirocco is a fine looking car, but it’s not exactly cutting edge. Peel away the coupe-ish hatchback body, and you’ll find the ancient gizzards of the Mk5 Golf. So, it’s well overdue a replacement, but unfortunately it’s looking like that might not happen.

Autocar reports that at VW’s Annual Session, the subject of replacing the Scirocco and Mk6 Golf-related Beetle hard top was raised. The response wasn’t a particularly promising one. VW brand board member Arno Antlitz is quoted as saying: “The Beetle and Scirocco are representatives of an emotional and appealing class of vehicles, but it is not always about continuing cars from one generation to the next.”

The VW Scirocco Might Be Killed Off After The Current Generation Ends

Both the tin top Beetle and the Scirocco are poor sellers for VW, so it’d be understandable for the firm to axe the pair as it seeks to cut costs and streamline in the stupidly expensive wake of the dieselgate scandal. The considerably more popular convertible Beetle is understood to be safe.

Antlitz reckons that the incoming Arteon saloon and the production versions of the I.D. cars will plug the ‘emotional’ gap left by any Scirocco and/or Beetle departure.

This new comes just a week after it was reported that the Group was mulling over a sale of the Ducati brand - owned by Audi subsidiary Lamborghini.

It’s going to be the Evo all over again. Except the air will be cleaner than ever.

I’ll take the Arteon instead, it looks just as good as the Scirocco. Tis a shame still.

New plan: Scirocco kills dieselgate and the electric cars which are pretty much a scam to avoid road tax. Will the fuel industry go down most likely? Nope.. Do electric cars have higher manufacturing emissions? Yes.

Grabs popcorn and waits for the crowd of triggered people

Edit: I’m not saying I hate ALL EVs, I do like some of them like the Model S P100D, R8 E-tron, Mission E concept etc..

Electric cars still have “fuel” emissions but people don’t have common sense and think coal etc powerplants won’t matter even if they need to produce more energy to power these cars, whilst coal, oil etc powerplants are far far worse coal has 10x the radiation exposure of nuclear and far higher co2 emissions.

Non car people need to learn to love wagons, hot hatches and manual transmissions cause this is a reason. Also, the f*cking United States is the only reason why the R34 is endangered!
