When Your Race Boss Tells You To Push Another Car Off The Track, Don't Do It
Timo Scheider was instructed by Audi's motorsport boss to push the driver off ahead on the last lap, and took out two Mercedes cars with one single hit
Robert Wickens, Pascal Wehrlein and Timo Scheider were racing closely for sixth, seventh and eighth on the final lap of the second Red Bull Ring DTM race. Under braking for Turn 3, Scheider’s Audi hit the rear of Wehlein’s car, catapulting him into fellow Mercedes driver Wickens.
The contact took place just seconds after Audi motorsport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich gave Scheider the command "schieb ihn raus" - which translates to "push him out" - over team radio. Both Mercedes drivers were eliminated from the race and Scheider was later disqualified, but no additional penalty was given to Audi.
