Video: Lexus Confirms Record Breaking Nurburgring Run With Special Edition LFA
Nurburgring records, Lexus - there is something a bit unusual about that. Do those go together? Apparently, they do, because Lexus has set a record at the Nuburgring track with the aptly named LFA Nurburgring Edition.
Nurburgring records, Lexus - there is something a bit unusual about that. Do those go together? Apparently, they do, because Lexus has set a record at the Nuburgring track with the aptly named LFA Nurburgring Edition. The record certainly gets you some bragging rights in the world of car enthusiasts. Witness Porsche and Nissan's wrangling a little while back over who had the best lap time. That all is in the rearview mirror now though, as Lexus has posted a time of 7:14.64. The run that Porsche posted with its 911 GT2 RS was 7 minutes and 18 seconds, a good enough record to hold the title since April 2010.
Lexus' record isn't for the overall fastest time at the track mind you, but just the fastest times for a production vehicle. Some have begged the question if Lexus is deserving of the production vehicle record given that just 50 units of the Nurburgring Edition are produced.
However, what isn't in question is that the car is produced by a volume manufacturer within all the usual regulatory constraints, unlike a boutique manufacturer with one-off vehicles. Either way you look at it, the LFA clearly beat all its competition. And, with its exorbitant price tag, we sure expect it to! It's up to Porsche now to try to best that time with its next-generation 911. Lexus has offered proof of the record-breaking run below with a video showing factory driver Akira Iida flogging the LFA around the track.
