UPDATE: This Guy Has Been Sitting In His Vauxhall Tigra On A Tow Truck For Six Hours In A Bizarre Parking Dispute
Earlier today, 34-year-old Matthew Sanders parked his Vauxhall Tigra in a disabled parking bay in Birmingham City Centre. Unsurprisingly, this got him a ticket, and soon after, his car was about to be towed. Not wanting this to happen, Matthew jumped in the car, despite it being on the back of a tow truck. And he’s been in there for six hours and counting.
Police were recently called to the scene, although this is apparently just as a precaution in case there is a breach of the peace. Various members of the public have given Matthew drinks and snacks while he continues his unconventional protest. He’s claimed he is happy to pay the ticket, but cannot afford the release fee necessary if his car is indeed towed away.
What do you think, should the man just accept that he broke the rules, or is his dispute with the parking wardens justified?
UPDATE: After more than eight hours in his car, Sanders effectively won his rather uneccessary protest. A local policeman finally managed to work out a compromise that saw the Vauxhall removed from the truck, but Sanders is still required to pay the original fine.
Birmingham Mail spoke to the man after his ordeal, and incredibly he plans to sue the council for a loss of earnings. In future, perhaps Mr Sanders should just park his car legally….
