We're fans of British luxury and British sports car manufacturers. In the sports car category, was MG, a company that recently got bought up by China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), after the parent company MG Rover went into administration.

As fans of all-things British, we loved the independent, British-owned MG Rover. In the dark days towards the end of the company, a lot of new products were being worked on for MG and Rover (the show-stopping R60 hatchback that never saw the light of day).

Three of those products were performance vehicles that have gotten a reveal today, as part of a program dubbed X120.

There are designs for a new Midget, a replacement for the TF roadster and an upmarket coupé meant to rival the Porsche Cayman.

These aren't just pie-in-the-sky renderings and conjecture either: MG Rover designer Lee Mitchell has opened up about them and the sure-fire success he believed they were: “I felt we were making history and it’s a pity it never came to fruition.”

What's worse, MG Rover was plotting a comeback to the United States market: “There was every intention to take the brand back to the US as MG Rover really needed to find new markets for its products. The business case (for these cars) relied on US numbers to turn a profit."

For more information and images of each of the three MGs, check out AutoExpress and the MG-Rover fan site Austin Rover Online. Definitely worth a look.
