Top 10 Awesome Movie Car Cameos

These are the cars that only made fleeting movie appearances, but we remember them more than the stars...

10. Pulp Fiction Acura NSX

Pulp Fiction is full of classic quotes, Grand Theft Auto-style violence and arguably the best Tarantino direction ever. But the few on-screen seconds devoted to Winston Wolf’s Acura NSX, and its V6 howl, are pretty tasty. The cult Nineties supercar in the cult Nineties movie.

9. Never Back Down Ford Mustang

This one’s a bit shameless. American high school teen movie meets fighting redemption, and for that added dose of USA, gets a Bullitt Mustang as the nerd’s hero car. It doesn’t even get above 20mph on screen, but for Americana cool the GT390 is all sorts of win.

8. iRobot Audi RSQ

So, this is what the R8 will look like in 2035, right? Spherical wheels, backwards doors, and a 200mph autopilot? We’re on board for that. Just let’s do without the crazy army of killer malfunctioning robots with British accents, please. iRobot deserves a sequel just so we get to see more of this.

7. Bruce Almighty Saleen S7

Jim Carrey’s beat-up Datsun is actually pretty cool, but once he’s got God-given powers he defaults to the Saleen S7 supercar, proceeding to part the sea of traffic jams to go for a hoon. Seems fair - God should have at least 700bhp in his ride. Pity the Saleen wasn’t on-screen for longer.

6. 17 Again Lamborghini Gallardo

You don’t need to know how I found myself in a cinema watching Zac Efron and Matthew Perry in a time-travelling body-swapping high school rom-com. But if you ever find yourself similarly indisposed, take heart that the yowl of the Lambo’s 5.2-litre V10 will wake you right up, especially through a boss cinema sound system.

5. CARS Schumacher Ferrari F430

Cars got the voice talents of Owen Wilson and Jeremy Clarkson, but the cheeky cameo right at the end for the seven-time F1 world champion as a smooth-talking Ferrari was a tiny bit of genius. And his entourage – Maserati Quattroportes! No? Just me? Okay then.

4. Enemy of the State/American Beauty Pontiac Firebird

The Firebird gets stacked in the excellent thriller Enemy of the State, and doesn’t move at all in the scarily brilliant American Beauty, but it’s still achingly cool, and perfectly cast, in both. Bit of an American mid-life crisis car, but if you’re going to get insecure and blow the savings, do it properly.

3. I Am Legend Ford Mustang

No apologies for the third Will Smith movie in this list, and the second ‘Stang. It bursts onto the scene in I Am Legend as Smith’s hunting ride in a post-apocalypse New York. Face it, if you were the last survivor in a zombie-ridden NYC and had the place to yourself, you’d find a flash motor and drive it like you stole it too.

2. Layer Cake Audi RS6 Avant

Daniel Craig got the role as James Bond largely because of his awesome gangster performance in Layer Cake. The film makers needed to cast a perfect car alongside him, but it’s not just as simple as picking a grey Aston. Solution? The perfect drug dealer car. Fast, subtle, and with a whacking great boot for carrying swag.

1. The Italian Job Lamborghini Miura

The Italian Job is all about Michael Caine, gold bullion, and in terms of cars, those legendary Minis. Yet the real treat sits over the starting credits, as a red Miura winds its way through a mountain pass with Matt Monroe crooning away on the soundtrack. It’s impossibly cool, and a little bit poignant, given the fact the Lambo has just minutes to live...
