Supercar Danger; Jay Kay's Smashed Ferrari Enzo

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to own a one-of-a-kind supercar, you would probably imagine that it would be amazing! Every journey you took would entertain you with a glorious sounding engine, mind blowing acceleration and would especially entertain you around the country roads and around the local racetrack.
It's not just using it that would make you happy though. Imagine a sunny day and you have just locked your front door, you turn around and suddenly you are dazzled by the glorious design and sparkle of your pride and joy sitting on your driveway. All sounding wonderful so far.
Sadly there will be a couple of drawbacks if you get the opportunity to own one. Firstly the fact that supercars have a natural talent of burning your money. The costs of buying it, driving it and insuring it can be astronomical. Mind you, if you're very rich and famous this is only a minor issue, obviously. The biggest danger is that some people will not appreciate your iconic motor and that is exactly what happened to singer and multiple exotic car owner Jay Kay.
One of Jay's supercars is a Ferrari Enzo. This is a limited edition Ferrari (only 400 were made) that was built to commemorate the first F1 title for the company in the new millennium. It is bathed in F1 technology such as a full carbon fibre body, Carbon fibre-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C/Sic) ceramic brakes and electrohydraulic shift transmission. This F1 technology teamed with a 6.0L V12 engine producing 651 horsepower means the Enzo can go from 0-60mph in just 3.14 seconds and can go all the way up to 217mph! When Jay Kay bought his Enzo he wanted it custom built and when it was ready he went all the way to the factory to collect it. You can imagine he would feel so proud and privileged to own such a great and rare machine especially since it is worth around £1 Million. The Enzo is like a very rare gem or an original piece of art on display at a museum to car nuts.
He decided in 2009 to take it to a hotel in Suffolk where he was staying with two of his sound engineers. To some this may sound harmless but to me it sounds a little careless and you are about to find out why. This is what Jay saw when he woke up the next morning.
See the drivers side window? Oh wait, you can't because it has been completely smashed. You might be able to spot the broken glass on the ground next to it. And what's that white mark on the windscreen? He must of thought it was a large bit of bird dirt from this angle. Unfortunately it's a nasty smash on the windscreen in a sort of mallet shape. One of the kitchen workers at the hotel decided not to respect the £1 Million commemorative motor and heartlessly decided to vandalise it. You can see Jay in the background and assume he is rather disappointed. On a happier note, the man that did the damage did get arrested.
If Jay took something everyday and average like a Golf or a Focus the chances of vandalism would be a whole lot less if you think about it.
Thankfully, the damage was only minor. It would have cost Jay a small fortune to fix but it could have been a lot worse. Could you imagine how devastated you would be if you wrote off something like a Ferrari Enzo? Or what if a giant rock decided one day to land on it? I would probably have severe depression for the rest of my life if I turned 400 Enzos into 399.
How to describe supercar ownership? It's a bit like being a celebrity. You'll attract more attention than usual and fans will be appreciating it but there's always going to be that extra sense of vulnerability everywhere you go.
