Spyker 4-Door Sedan?

Lots of news is rolling out from my favorite niche car manufacturer Spyker Cars.  Apparently the recent spate of announcements has a lot to do with an infusion of Russian funding into the company.

Lots of news is rolling out from my favorite niche car manufacturer Spyker Cars.  Apparently the recent spate of announcements has a lot to do with an infusion of Russian funding into the company. The investor apparently liked the D8 Peking To Paris and that's why the production is moving forward with it. Now Spyker CEO is shedding some light on the D8 as well as a new Quattroporte-rivaling 4-door sedan.

I think this is really neat to hear, and an important step in Spyker becoming a more established and a bit larger volume luxury brand like it aspires to be. Sales last year were up and they look to be up this year as well with the new C8 Aileron on the way as well as an expansion into more markets across the world (including the U.S).

According to Spyker CEO Victor Muller they see three model lines in their future. C-Line sports cars, D-Line is the "SSUV" (Super Sports Utility Vehicle) and the sedan would be as part of a new E-Line, a "Quattroporte type" vehicle.

Interesting. Maserati was one of the first of the exotic manufacturers to produce a 4-door sedan and apparently that would be more of the way Spyker would go with it's sedan. If it was me, Quattroporte wouldn't be the natural fit as a target. I'd be thinking more Aston Martin Rapide, but anyhow that is their reasoning.

The Dutch translation is a bit sketchy and makes things kind of hard. For instance "Spyker CEO Victor Muller does shine a four super sedan in the pen, which must compete with the Maserati Quattro Porte". You get the idea though.

In addition to information a potential new 4-door Spyker sedan, he let go some new details on the D8 Peking To Paris. I find it funny that, at least in the translation, the D8 is referred to as "he". He said the production model will be "very close" to the prototype. Even nicer in fact he said. The suicide doors are also going into production. The potential market for a D8 is someone who doesn't want a Bentley because his "neighbor already has one".

Also, no pretending to be green here: "SUV sounds not green and that he is not". Indeed. They're currently discussing engine options to power the D8 with a number of suppliers, including here in America. (GM V-8?). Standard engine will be around 550 horsepower with potential for a model with over 700 horsepower. Sounds crazy!
