The Rumoured Ford Fiesta ST 'Plus' Could Fill The RS Void

Ford has ruled out creating a full-fat Fiesta RS for now, but rumours suggest that a more powerful version of the ST could be with us at the Geneva motor show
The Rumoured Ford Fiesta ST 'Plus' Could Fill The RS Void

We’d been hearing persistent speculation of an incoming ‘Fiesta RS’ when Ford Europe product boss Jay Ward quashed the rumours last month. “We can say categorically that we are not working on a Fiesta RS at this time,” he said when speaking to Car Throttle in January. That’s not to say it won’t ever happen, but it seems highly unlikely on the current generation Fiesta. But what might happen is a hotter version of the Fiesta ST.

Autocar says that it “understands a hotter version of the Fiesta ST is on its way, sold under the name ST Plus” - and we could be seeing it as soon as the Geneva motor show. There’s no word on power outputs, but the regular ST is good for 212bhp and 236lb ft with the dealer-fit, warranty-friendly Mountune upgrade. You’d imagine the increase for the ‘Plus’ won’t be massive - much of a bump in performance and price and it’ll be be too close to the Focus ST.

We’ll have to wait and see if the rumours have any substance, but if the ‘Plus’ doesn’t happen it’s no biggie - the Fiesta ST is already a brilliant little thing with the power it currently has.

The thing already has trouble gripping with full bolt ons. I hope they implement a true LSD on the upgraded model.

Rather stick with my VXR. Proper mechanical LSD, full Bilstein suspension set up and with a few mods it’s sitting at 250bhp :)
