Rumor: TT-RS to Come to the U.S After All?

Over at MotorTrend, they've published a report a few weeks ago stating their expectation to see the TT range-topper RS making it Stateside. Audi sources tell them the chances are highly likely of it happening.

I was waiting to see if there was any other follow ups on this article from either Motor Trend or some other sources, but that hasn't proved to be the case.

As per usual, these rumors fly right in the face of Audi's official position regarding the model. Even if they were absolutely certain of it's launch, that doesn't mean they would tell us so.

The likely answer to this situation is that, like other automakers, Audi likes to stagger it's releases to keep up interest and drive sales.

I'm sure an TT-RS announcement right now would do a lot to deflate excitement (sales?) surrounding the recently introduced 265-HP TT-S.

So, it's good to know from a reputable source that the car has a good chance of being sold here. Why would Audi not sell one of it's flagship models here in the U.S? It would be stupid not to. The TT-RS could be an Audi "halo", along with the R8, of course.

As the TT-RS takes performance to new levels, it enables Audi to have an entry that can do battle with cars like the Porsche Cayman S.

The TT always had a lot more performance potential then Audi ever cared to give it, so it's good to see it being realized. I expect with the next-generation model we'll see even more of a sports emphasis.

The TT as it stands today has come a long way from the 1998 original. Audi had already has a lot of goodwill with the TT in the youth demographic (Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, anyone?). Offering high-performance models like the TT-RS here in the U.S should only help that further.
