If McLaren’s 600 Longtail (600LT) somehow struggles to take your fancy, then German tuner Novitec could well have the answer. As part of the firm’s “exclusive performance programme,” the British-built two-seater gets more power, greater acceleration and - inevitably - a higher top speed.

The big news centres around the 600 LT’s 3.8-litre, twin-turbo V8. It now has more poke (679bhp compared to the regular model’s 592bhp), and can cover the 0-62mph sprint a tenth-of-a-second quicker (2.9sec versus 2.8sec). And as if that wasn’t impressive enough, flat out you will be travelling at 207mph as opposed to 204mph.

These impressive figures are thanks to a new piece of kit called ‘Performance Stage 2’; this is the most extreme version of three plug-and-play auxilliary control units being made available to customers and are operated via an ‘Active Dynamic Panel’ in the centre of the dash. Fancy.

More obvious changes include a carbon airbox “to ensure the supply of fresh air” to the engine, and a new stainless steel exhaust system that guarantees a “fittingly thrilling acoustic accompaniment”.

Engineers have also gone to the trouble of thermally insulating the pipe work exiting the motor to prevent heat from finding its way into a cabin that is made from leather and Alcantara.

Novitec also turned to American specialist, Vossen, to develop the 20-inch and 21-inch forged rims codenamed ‘MC3’. They not only look the part but also shave off some weight.

On top of that, the seven dual-spoke design rims are available in 77 different colours. Combined with new springs that reduce the ride height by 30mm, these easily fill the arches to deliver a squat, athletic stance.

How much will this all cost you? Well, for the moment, that is anyone’s guess as Novitec has decided not to disclose that pretty important detail. Spec everything, and you’ll no doubt be faced with a a price tag best described as ‘lots’.

Do all that to a 50,000€ car and it will cost you about 20,000 using available parts, so on that basis add a 40% premium to the cost of your 600LT.

Of course the kit is going to be expensive, try to act surprised. All in all I suppose it will run north of 20k, but Novitec can and will get away with that. 600LT owners don’t care that much about the money, if they want the kit they are going to get it regardless of the price. In the supercar world, having a low price for a customisation programme isn’t a selling point anyway, the lower the price the less exclusive it is, and supercar buyers are all about exclusivity.
