MR Car Design VW Touran

Just how far could you push a minivan? Yeah, I know: Who'd want to. But let us just say, for the sake of argument, how far could you push a minivan if you really wanted to? Well the good folks at MR Car Design decided to find out. And they were able to take a Volkswagen Touran and get 223HP out of it. And oh yeah, they did that using a 2 liter TDI diesel.

I remember back in the 90s Renault realized that their Espace minivan had the exact same wheelbase as the Renault powered Williams grand prix car. So they made up a special, a Williams chassis with an Espace body dropped on top, and four seats mounted within. It was supposed to be one hell of a ride.

No, this isn't that crazy, but it sure is an interesting idea. I've got nothing against minivans. Sometimes, they are the best answer to your automotive questions. Sure, they're bland and boring and all that, but sometimes, that's what you need. So why not try to make them more interesting? I guess that's where me and the fine fellows from MR Car Design would get along.

And what's really nice about the MR Car Design VW Touran is that it's not a one off, oh no. They are making this as a production kit that you could buy and affix to your very own run of the mill Touran. Nice thought, that.

The new sports package from the tuning boffins at MR Car Design is specifically designed for the Volkswagen Touran people carrier equipped with the 2.0 TDI diesel engine. Sweet, diesel only tuning packages. The Golf-based Touran gets a "stage 1" treatment that includes a recalibrated ECU and a custom-made stainless steel sport exhaust system.

The power figures end up at 223 horsepower and 457Nm or 337 lb-ft of peak torque. Which, is a whole lot of grunt, if you think about it. Which means that rolling acceleration and passing maneuvers should be a snap. Imagine the look on the guy when you pass him in you minivan.

MR Car Design also gave the VW Touran a sport suspension kit by KW. It lowers the ride height by up to 80mm and MR Car Design also fits the Touran with a Stoptech high-performance braking system with 4-piston calipers. there's also a rather nice set of 19-inch alloy wheels by RC Design in a white finish wrapped in 235/35-19 Vredestein tires and the white racing stripes round off the package.
