While competitors like Audi are just starting to catch up to the CLS by introducing models like the A7 Sportback, Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce its second-generation model.
In fact, many competitors in the segment, such as BMW, have yet to field competitors. BMW, however, is planning to introduce its response in the form of the 6-Series Gran Coupe.
Mainstream companies like Hyundai and Volkswagen have copied the CLS' look. And that means its time for a change in style.
Mercedes didn't intend you to see these official images yet - they got leaked out on the web early via this brochure. We basically knew what the CLS would look like already though.
If the CLS Shooting Break Concept at Geneva wasn't enough, other images of it uncovered gave us a good look. These are the first official shots though, and the first to show the interior.
The new CLS is bolder, with a sharper and more defined look. There is now more bodywork detail, and the car shows off side sculpting dominated by a character line and flowing haunches that define the curvaceous rear end.
Two interior pictures also got leaked out, and while the dash isn't shown, the interior looks to carry on the sporty look of the previous CLS.
Mercedes has done a good job with this car, doing exactly what they needed to do - update a style icon without changing up the formula too much.
