Lamborghini is the famed Italian company born out of Ferrucio Lamborghini's desire to produce a better competitor to Ferrari. Through the years it has been a staple of the automotive scene.

Hitting hard times and declaring bankruptcy in the 1970's, it has been through Swiss, Indonesian, American (Chrysler) and finally German (Audi/Volkswagen Group) ownership.

Under Audi's stewardship, Lamborghini has prospered. As an example of this, the 4,000th Murcielago was just built at Lamborghini's factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese. In contrast, in eleven years of production the predecessor to the Murcielago, the Diabo, only managed 2,900 units.

The 4,000th example is an LP670-4 SV with Arancione Atlas (orange) paint. Showing a changing world, the car is being delivered to the Lamborghini dealer in Hangzhou, China where it will meet its new owner.

Its good to know Lamborghini is alive and well. One thing that is interesting about Lamborghini is the company's drifting to more extreme vehicles over its history.

When it started, Lamborghini produced front-engined GT-style vehicles. If VW is looking for ways to expand sales for the brand in the future, we think a smart way to do it would be to add a vehicle in that vein in addition to the current lineup.
