Koenigsegg Agera R, For the Skiier With Everything.
I think Christian von Koenigsegg is a big fan of the "go big or go home" mentality. Good example of this: Lamborghini has been slowwwwly revealing their upcoming halo supercar, which will be debuting at Geneva next month, the Aventador. You're probably heard abou
I think Christian von Koenigsegg is a big fan of the "go big or go home" mentality. Good example of this: Lamborghini has been slowwwwly revealing their upcoming halo supercar, which will be debuting at Geneva next month, the Aventador. You're probably heard about it. It's pretty extreme, y'know: carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, brand-new 700 horsepower V12 engine, new 7-speed twin clutch gearbox, etc. Pretty extreme vehicle. What's more extreme than a 700-horsepower Lamborghini, you say? Well, how about a hand-built Swedish sports car with 1,115 horsepower?
The new Agera R is a higher-performance version of the regular Agera, which recently replaced the CCX as Koenigsegg's model. While the thought of a "higher performance" Agera is a bit absurd (the standard model has 910bhp, remember), in these days of "regular" (1001bhp) Veyron's and "Super Sport" (1200bhp) Veyrons, I suppose one must strive to keep up with the Joneses.
The Agera R uses the same direct-injected, twin-turbocharged 5.0L V8 which uses variable-vane turbochargers to manage boost delivery. It's tuned to deliver the full 1,115bhp while burning E85 bioethanol (which has a significantly higher effective octane rating than straight petroleum pump gas) as well as 885 lb-ft of torque. If you fill the tank up with dead dinos, you only get 940 horsepower and 811 lb-ft, so make sure you own a corn field. Don't wanna miss out.
The power goes through a 7-speed twin clutch gearbox to the rear wheels - no sissy Bugatti all wheel drive junk here! The tires are designed by Michelin specifically for the Agera R, and hold the distinction for highest-speed-rated tires in the world, at 260mph. Take that, Bugatti!
The client who ordered this specific Agera is apparently an avid skiier, as the Agera R coming to Geneva has a ski panel designed in conjunction with Thule. It bolts in where the roof panel would normally go, which raises the question: just because a Koenigsegg is from Sweden, does that mean you can drive one in snow? I mean, can you really go to any ski resort in an 1,115bhp RWD car? Can you fit snow tires to a Koenigsegg?
Regardless of these pointless questions, you'll be able to check out the Agera next month at the Geneva show. And also lick up the tears of sadness the Lamborghini reps will surely be crying. I can't wait.
