Idiot Tries To Overtake One Car Too Many And Causes A Four-Car Smash

A reckless driver in North Carolina continued an overtaking manoeuvre into oncoming traffic, causing a four-car pile-up before simply driving away as if nothing happened

When you’re overtaking, it’s best to leave a sizeable margin for error. That’s exactly what this lunatic in North Carolina didn’t do when overtaking multiple cars in one go.

As the road bends to the left ahead of him he carries on the manoeuvre regardless instead of pulling into the safe gap available. There’s oncoming traffic and the first car has to slam its brakes on.

Idiot Tries To Overtake One Car Too Many And Causes A Four-Car Smash

The car behind that appears not to see what’s going on, slams into the back of the first car and then ploughs forwards, spinning the first car around and carrying on through, as if the driver is either unconscious or has forgotten what the brake pedal does. Two other cars are involved, too, as the driver who caused it simply carries on his way.

We’ve no doubt that when the police find the culprit they won’t be gentle.

It’s also a double line, so technically he was already passing illegally.

does that also work like that in america? because i feel like almost all roads in america have double lines

It’s a yellow double line. Yellow means that it is suggested not to pass, white means that it is illegal to pass. At least, that’s the law in Ontario Canada.

The reason double yellows exist is to prevent this from happening

To be fair, it was also the other people’s fault. If the second oncoming car had had a safe braking distance, they would never have hit the first oncoming car, and etcetera down the line.

Plus the pickup that he was trying to pass clearly sped up either to keep him from passing or to give him space behind him to cut into. Multiple parties are at fault here.

I really dont think so. Its really unexpected with so little traffic to suddenly have the people in front of you emergency brake. the guy overtaking could just have stayed behind the pickup truck. 100% his fault. Even with a safe following distance.. If someone does a big mistake like the idiot overtaker it will surprise others. Sure they could have kept like 50 m emergency distance. But its not their fault. From what i can see in the video there were at least 2 car lenghts inbetween the cars. But the guy behind the braking driver did not expect a sudden hard braking from the one in front. clearly didnt see the one overtaking. Theres lots of sun too, could have been impossible to see the oncoming idiot in time. Me and you we could both have been the one ending up rear ending the other car. The overtaking car didnt have lights on, means hes harder to see in sunlight too.

Yeah it’s their fault for driving on the correct side of the road. They should’ve known to expect an Asian car coming at them at 70 in their lane on a visually obstructive corner in a no passing zone?

Meanwhile in Australia, almost nobody has a dash cam so the car at the back of the 4 car smash would be technically at fault

He’d get a reckless driving charge and then whoever rear ended who first would be charged with cause of the accident. However they might want to just put all the blame on that guy. I would. What a stupid car
