How And Why Did Cars Go From Being Boxy To Curvy?
This great video from Vox shows how and why cars became curvy, having been boxy for years. There's a little more to it than you might expect...
As explained in this great video from Vox, and perhaps as expected, the quest for better fuel economy through more streamlined designs played a big part in the curvy revolution. But, there are more factors at play, such as the rise of computer modeling making curvy vehicle design a hell of a lot easier.
Aerodynamics aside though, there is still something cool about older, boxier cars…

Cars went from jacked as hell to looking like tubby kids (with some exceptions of course)
I think boxy cars can look really good
Like this?
I remember that episode of Top Gear it was one of the first ones that I watched and one of the best!
Oh the joeff
Not gonna lie, I always preferred curvy cars to boxy ones. They’ve always seemed so much sexier to me. Compare the BMW 507 to the E30 M3. Sure the 507 was more exclusive, but it looked so much better in my opinion. Boxes just never have done it for me.
Lol
inb4 amerifags say “well thats because porsche drivers arent straight”
So they want environmentally friendly cars, but they still make them out of steel.
You should watch The Grand Tour latest ep…
I think this post is pointless. Just look at these Lada’s! They don’t change!
Old BMW > any of the lada’s.
Boxy? Not sure what this”Boxy” thing is…
The engine😀
I look at the whole car before I decide if it looks better; some cars look better when they are curvy, others look better when they are boxy
For example, I much prefer the boxy mid-2000s Fiesta to the new one which is curvy. Same applies to older Mercs.
On the other hand, some cars look better when they are curvy, for example most BMWs now look better to my eye than they used to (although they always looked great)
#scumbag I tried to make a post 19 minutes after the video came out and someone beat me too it! Now I know who.
Because aerodynamics…….BRO
